Willie Shelly

Willie Shelly, 68-year-old Keyes, Oklahoma resident passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

Willie James Shelly was born March 13, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas to Charles Elmo Shelly and Mary Ellen (Baker) Shelly. He attended the Dumas, Texas school system graduating with the class of 1971.

After high school he went to work as a gauger for Diamond Shamrock and kept that position through many acquisitions of the company.

He was united in marriage with Teresa Weatherford on April 19, 1970, in Dumas, Texas.  This union blessed them with two children.

Willie enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, giving back to his community and spending time with his family. 

He gave countless hours to the Keyes volunteer fire and ambulance departments retiring after 20 years. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He belonged to the Church of Christ in Keyes.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Terri Thurman and one brother Johnny Shelly.

Left to carry on his legacy are his wife of 51 years, Teresa of the home; one son, Greg and his wife Tina Shelly of Cashion, Oklahoma; three sisters, Charlene Baze, Shirley Shelly and Arlene Boteler; three brothers, Chuck Shelly, Wayne Shelly and Blaine Shelly. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Trish Sloan, Sierra Thurman and Brook Shelly and two great-grandchildren: Lyla Sloan and Jack Sloan.

Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Willowbar Cemetery outside of Keyes with Weston Givens and LeRoy Durham officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Adam Corichi fund with the First Baptist Church in Keyes accepting them at P.O. box 153 Keyes, Oklahoma 73947. Donations may also be sent to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors at P.O. Box 1306 Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
