Vickie Sue McKinnon, 68, passed away December 25, 2021, at home in Guymon, Oklahoma. She was born December 1, 1953, in Kiowa Kansas. Her family moved to Hardtner, Kansas where she lived for most of her youth. She graduated from Alva High School and then attended Northwestern Oklahoma University where she earned a bachelor's degree and two master’s degrees in counseling and library science.
Vickie taught for many years in various schools in Oklahoma. Her teaching career finished in Guymon. She chose to retire from teaching specifically to run for the Guymon School Board. She won and subsequently served for 5 ½ Years on the board. Her passion was always to place the needs of students and teachers first.
Her greatest strength was asking the difficult question to get to the heart of a situation. She fought hard against mistreatment, lack of opportunity, and unfairness to other. She wasn’t afraid to buck the establishment.
She was preceded in death by her mother Juanita Lenora Smith, her stepfather Gwin Smith and her biological father Oble Lee Dooley.
She is survived by her husband Warner Mckinnon, daughter Kimberly Cook , and granddaughter Anaura Cook, of Guymon and daughter Jaqueline Robertson, husband Wesley Robertson, and their children Isabella Robertson and Rhys Robertson of Rowlett, Texas.
Service Details
Memorial Services will be held from 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the FEC building at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church.
