Celebration Of A Life Well Lived
Tommy Tomlinson
1945-2022
The world stopped turning early Tuesday morning, on June 28, 2022. Tommy Tomlinson heard His Master say, “Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant.”
Tommy Tomlinson, 76 year old lifelong resident of Guymon, Oklahoma passed away at the Byers/Tomlinson Homestead Tuesday, June 28, 2022, with his loving wife, Dana and daughter, Gianna, by his side.
Thomas Lee Tomlinson, better known as Tommy, was born in The Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Ft. Worth, TX. on September 7, 1945 to Ira Lee and Dorothy Blancett Tomlinson. Tommy was raised in Olney, TX. He attended grade school there and graduated from Olney High School in 1964. He went on to graduate from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, TX with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
During his elementary years, he played in all little league sports and while in high school, he worked at his cousin’s lumber company and The Olney Nursing Home which is how he was able to purchase his 1st car, all on his own, a classic ’53 Ford. This started his love for classic cars.
Tommy’s high school years as an Olney Cub consisted of a multitude of leadership and sports accolades. Class President, Student Body President, Student Council, voted outstanding and Best All- Around Student and Athlete, President-National Honor Society, Junior Lion and Class Favorite. He lettered in football, basketball, and golf for 4 years and tennis for 2 years and won The District Golf Tournament his Senior year. His football career left an indelible mark with The Olney Cubs. He started varsity as a Sophomore in all his sports. The fearless, quarterback, #31, the smallest on the team, led his team to the playoffs his Junior and Senior years. Tommy was Captain, Co-Captain, Tri-captain, Best Leader, Honorable Mention All-District, All-District, and Hall of Fame.
After college, Tommy worked as controller for Atoka Oil and Gas in Olney where he met Dave Cline which eventually led him to his outstanding 50 year career as Vice President of Hitch Enterprises, Inc in Guymon, OK. Through his many years at Hitch, countless co-workers titled him, “The Boss Man,” dedicated, honest and trustworthy.
His entire life was a service to God, his extended family, his work and always helping others. He was looked up to by many as “the man with the plan.” He coached his children and grandchildren in all their sports and activities helping them to be #1. Tommy also helped coach The Guymon High School boys and girls golf teams. He gave countless students and adults personal and private golf lessons. Being the Sunset Hills Club Champion 5 years consecutively certainly qualified him as “The Pro.” His love for professional (The Dallas Cowboys) and college (OU) sports gave him the title as “Tommy Cosell.”
Tommy Tomlinson, loving husband, the best dad, and doting grandpa left a mesmerizing impression with everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. His love of a good joke left miles of laughter to all he met. His collection of coins, all sports cards, golf balls, golf clubs, golf hats signed by some of the greatest golfers of all time, old checks, old magazines and countless antiques were just a few of his hobbies, besides hundreds of rounds of golf including a hole in one on his home course in Olney and at Liberal Municipal Golf Course. Tommy was one of a kind with a genius mind in all things great and small. He developed a lasting love and friendship with his church family, classmates, countless golf partners, co-workers, his 2 grand puppies and his loving family. Tommy carried many titles throughout all his acquaintances.
Honey, baby, dad, pops, daddy, faddy, donk-head daddy, grandpa, grandpa Tommy, gankaw, TT, Tommy T., Tombo, the pro, the boss man, the guru and a quote from his classmate, “a super fine gentleman and exceptional man, one never to be forgotten.” What a void this loss is to everyone he touched. Some people live their whole life and never know a friend like Tommy Tomlinson. All who knew Tommy are forever grateful for God’s extended gift of life to him. He gave so much and asked for little. He always cast his influence on his faith, his family and found the good in everyone he met. Tommy was THE BEST!
Tommy was married to his lifelong love, Dana Byers Tomlinson on January 8, 1981, at The Byers Farm where they made their home for 42 years. They raised their children, Kody, Thomas and Gianna there at The Homestead until they graduated, attending every dynamic event that their mother orchestrated.
