Sherley Ann Cook was born on June 17th, 1939 at the Old Gumm place in Texas County to Benjamin and Daisy Gumm Chapman. She was reunited with her love Cookie on March 20th, 2023 at Coldwater Manor in Stratford TX.
She grew up just outside of Keyes with her parents and 5 siblings. As a teenager Sherley worked in the drugstore at the soda fountain. It was at the soda fountain where she fell in love with Cookie, and they were united in marriage on April 1st 1961. Despite the jokes from her family over the years, their love was anything but a good April Fools Joke.
Sherley and Cookie made their home in Keyes, OK, where they enjoyed 58 years of marriage and were blessed with three children: Gary, Donnie and Lynn. Sherley was a member of FBC Keyes where she taught Awanas, was active on the social committee, enjoyed many trips to Branson with the “Young at Heart” group, volunteered as Falls Creek sponsor, and decorated the church for each season with her beautiful flower arrangements. She also was very involved with the Keyes alumni.
Sherley enjoyed cooking noodles, spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids, making flower arrangements, scrapbooking, taking naps, sticking her tongue out at her grandkids during their school functions and making them laugh. She spent many hours reading to, coloring with, and cooking Mickey Mouse pancakes for her grandkids. She loved hosting her family for holidays and talking about how “precious” they were when they would act up. Her orneriness kept her young and was passed on to the generations that would follow her.
Sherley is survived by her three children and their spouses: Gary and Jeannie Cook, Donnie and Julie Cook, and Brent and Lynn Jones; seven grandchildren: Marsha and Joseph Williams, Michelle Lopez and her late husband Kevin Lopez, Mitchell and Sara Perky, Bailey and Kc Baldonado, Braden Cook, Shannon and Logan Grant, and Taylor and Kevin McIntire. She is also survived by her 11 great grandchildren with a very special 12th one on the way. She is also survived by her sister Francis Reid, and brothers John Champan and Bennie Champan, as well as a many other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Carroll ( Cookie) Cook, her parents Benjamin and Daisy, and two brothers Jerry Chapman and Gerald Chapman.
The funeral services will take place Friday, March 24, 2023 at The First Baptist Church in Keyes OK at 10:00 AM with Pastor Matt Montoya officiating. Interment will follow at Willowbar cemetery.
