Sam Yates, 77-year-old Texhoma, Texas resident passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at BSA in Amarillo, Texas.
Leonard Samuel Yates was born April 13, 1945, in Plainview, Texas to Claude and Helen (McGuire) Yates. Sam attended the Plainview school system.
Sam enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his country before being honorably discharged.
Sam was united in marriage to Fran Evans, and they were blessed with three children, Sabra, Wayne, and Troy. He was united in marriage to Laura Kinselburg in 1976. Laura preceded him in death in 2004.
Sam worked as a self-employed mechanic and enjoyed making knives. He donated knives to the OPSU rodeo club for many years. He liked doing different types of artwork and watching rodeo and NASCAR. Sam loved tinkering with all kinds of projects. He was known to everyone in Texhoma as the local locksmith.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Laura and one daughter Delores” Dee” Kondracki.
Sam is survived by one daughter- Sabra Farabee of Texhoma, Texas, three sons- Wayne Yates of Texhoma, Texas, Troy Yates and wife Molly of Wyoming and Larry Campbell and wife (Kelly) of Galveston, Texas, one brother- Claude Yates and wife Jackie of Bentonville, Arkansas. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren- Clayton, Lauren, Sydni, Randi, Hanna, Austin, Sadie, Tristin, Kole, Kayla, Rachel, and Ian and fifteen great-grandchildren. Sam is also survived by numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the OPSU Rodeo Club and will be accepted at Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, p.o. box 1306, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel in Texhoma, Texas.
