Robert Thrash Obituary

Robert Lee Thrash was born in 1938 at the Thaxton family homestead east of Felt, Ok. It must have been at midnight because his mother said he was born on July 25, but Dr. Winchester who came out from Clayton, NM wrote on his birth certificate that his birthdate was July 24. His parents named him after his Uncle Robert, who died as a young man, and his grandad, Lee Thaxton, who lived to a ripe old age.

Preceding him in death were his parents, DB and Lucille (Thaxton) Thrash, and two brothers, Ronald Wayne and Donald Bruce.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ardith Lynn, and children Sandy Brown and husband John, Brad Thrash and wife Traci, Shane Thrash, one brother, Tim and three sisters, Judy Dunn, Linda Nelson and DiAnn Barker, 10 grandchildren and their spouses, 23 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. At the time of his passing his immediate family numbered 45.

Robert entered first grade at Felt Public School and graduated there in 1956. He and Ardith married Nov. 26, 1958.

He accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 9 years old. He believed the scripture John 3:16 that says Whosoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life, so he lived his life to the fullest, but not always to the safest. Most of his 23 surgeries were because of horse wrecks.

Robert served as director on Panhandle Telephone Board for 50 years. He was a deacon at Felt Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International for 50 years, serving in several different capacities on the New Mexico State Gideon Cabinet.

Robert left his earthly life on March 21, 2024 at the age of 85 years and 7 months and is now at home with his Jesus, which was his great desire.

Funeral see will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the Felt school auditorium.

The family encourages memorials be given to the Gideons International to purchase Bibles to share God’s word with a lost world.
