Mary Barnes Obituary

Hardesty, Oklahoma – Mary Barnes, 81, passed away Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 at the Senior Village, Perryton, Texas.

The daughter of Elizabeth (Barrick) and Vernon David, Mary Ella David was born April 4, 1937 in Keyes, Oklahoma.  She attended school in Guymon and was united in marriage to John Lewis Barnes on October 8, 1954 in Clayton, New Mexico.  The couple lived at the Panhandle Eastern Plant near Hardesty, before moving into Hardesty in 1963.  Mary and John enjoyed their community, church, and all things family.  Mary was an excellent shot, enjoyed hunting (cleaning and cooking the game) and camping.  She and John were talented musicians and would play at area events and Sr. Citizen Centers, with Mary on the bass guitar.  She was an adoring and fun “Grandma” and “Ninny”.  She had a fun sense of humor, loved to joke and tease, and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with neighbors and family.  Mary was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Hardesty.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Lou Ella Stephens and husband, Melvin of Plainview, TX; Brenda Pope and husband, Jerry of Dumas, TX; and Mona Saucedo and husband, Tony of Hardesty; a brother, Elmer David and wife, Juanice of Guymon, OK; and brother-in-law, Bob Barnes and wife, Marlene of Tulsa, OK.  She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Mykel Stephens and wife, Alicia, Misty McCoy, Joshua Stephens and wife, Steppy, Naomi Sandoval and husband, John, Joseph Applegate; thirteen great grandchildren, Randy, Haley, Cody and Cory Stephens, Johnathon McCoy and wife, Laci, Mackinzie and Mathhew McCoy, Carter, Kyzen and Mary Coren Hudson, Aaron and Gabriella Sandoval, and a great-great granddaughter, Ava Lynn Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Barnes, who passed away in 2007, sister, Ida Oglesby, brothers, Edward David and Thomas David and two granddaughters, Ishka Hudson and Joni Pope.

Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, August 11th, 2:00 PM at the Hardesty School Auditorium, with family friend, Jesse Martin, officiating.  Interment will follow in Hartville Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 PM at Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon.

Memorials may be given to the Ochiltree Hospice Volunteers, 3101 Garrett Drive, Perryton, TX  79070.
