Laina Grotegut

October 26, 1986 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 31) 31 Years Old

Gruver, Texas - Laina Grotegut, 31, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2017 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The daughter of Angela (Lesly) and Mike Grotegut, Laina Richelle was born October 26, 1986 in Amarillo.  Laina grew up in Gruver, was a member of the 2003 Lady Hound state finalist team and competed in regional tennis.  She was honored by her friends, peers and teachers with several outstanding awards and graduated with the Gruver High School Class of 2005. She was a gifted soloist and blessed many in her church and community with her beautiful singing voice.

Laina attended Texas Tech University before moving to St. Paul. There resides some of the brightest diabetic physicians in the nation that provided her a caliber of treatment, that met her demanding personal standards of care. She fired plenty of lackluster caretakers, mainly the ones she didn’t find to be brilliant, in the later years, many sought her advice when developing her treatment strategies. Laina was studying neuroscience at the University of Saint Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota.  She joined the Catholic Church and celebrated her first communion on Easter Sunday, 2014 at the St. Paul Cathedral.

Laina’s passions were finely tuned, as were her immaculate notes and handwriting. But on any given day, her truest sense of self, came from the acquisition of knowledge, and practicing her faith. Prayer, coffee, science, literature, and theology, were her sustenance. An unquenchable thirst for knowledge and truth guided her through the pain of her earthly condition. Her family will dearly miss her shady humor, luminous laughter, and sagely guidance, during tough times.

Laina is survived by her parents, Mike and Angela Grotegut of Gruver; brothers, Drew Grotegut of Eagle River, Alaska, and Parker Grotegut of Gruver, and his fiancé, Ashlyn Tubbs; grandparents, Bobby and Reta Lesly of Spearman, Texas.  She is also survived by her uncles and aunts, David and Ginny Grotegut, Clara and Jack Thompson, Richard and Sharon Lesly;  cousins, Derek and Tessa Grotegut, Kadie and Lonnie Burnam, Kyle and Ashley Thompson, Melissa Harshbarger, Glen and Jeff Lesly; and granddad, Roy Byrd.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Rosalie (Frische) Grotegut, and great grandparents, Eugene and Maria Frische, Bernard and Clara Grotegut, Eura and Jimmy Lou Rose, and Glen and Hazel Lesly.  A Rosary will be said on Monday evening, November 13th, 7:00PM at the Gruver United Methodist Church, 506 Broadway, with family friend and Deacon Richard Wagner, assisting.  Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, November 14th, 10:00 AM with Rev. Steve Chappel, pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Gruver Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
