James Johnson Obituary

James Elton Johnson died on June 4, 2020. He was born in Guymon on Apr. 30, 1941, and returned with his parents, William Lewis and Billie Joyce (Walker) Johnson to their home in the Oslo Community, south of Guymon.

 Jimmy attended the Oslo Country School until he transitioned into the Gruver Public Schools, where he graduated from high school. He then attended and graduated from what is now Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell.

He married Karen Chase on Aug. 10, 1963. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in both Germany and Vietnam during the Vietnam conflict. When he returned home, he worked as a mechanic in Guymon, then for Phillips Petroleum at the SherHan plant near Oslo. He also farmed dryland wheat.

 He and his wife were member of the Guymon Church of Christ.

 Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Joyce Johnson; and his brother Charles Eugene Johnson. He is survived by his wife Karen Johnson, his sister Eloise Carol Hackett and her husband Doug, his brothers Eric Johnson and Chris Johnson of Gruver; his nieces and nephews Bob Hackett, Susan Runnels of the Dallas area, Justin Johnson and Lisa Schulz of Gruver, Missy Cartwright of Texhoma, and Lucas Johnson of Nucla, Colo.; he also has eight grand-nieces; and his many nieces and nephews from Karen’s side of the family.
