Ida Veres Obituary

Twenty – three year Guymon resident, Ida Veres passed away in long term care in the W.F and Mada Dunaway Manor in Guymon, Oklahoma. She ascended on May 26, 2021. Ida jane Veres, age 94 was born in Stoystown, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1926. Her parents were Jospeh and Florence Hemminger.

Ida loved music and learned to play the mandolin. Her old sister Frances, who played the guitar, would join Ida in playing and singing duets. They were often invited to play and sing in local churches. Ida continued to entertain the manor staff and patients with her singing throughout her time as a neighbor resident in the facility.

She was married to Frank Veres in the chapel of the Valley Forge Military Hospital on November 3, 1945. Frank was a wounded World War II Air Force veteran. They made their home in Somerset County of Pennsylvania and permanently settled in the small picturesque village of Hooversville. In late 1946, they welcomed their only child, Ronald Ray Veres.

Ida Could be best described for a loving servant. She missed school frequently to care for her diabetic mother and to send her younger siblings to school and to allow her father to continue working. Her church family and friends were frequent recipients of Ida’s comfort food. Her busy hands loved to garden, and her banks of strawberry plants and perfectly groomed yard were well known. Each Saturday, the three churches in her little town would cut roses and flowers from her garden to make arrangements for their worship services. Ida was active in community projects such as parades and fundraisers during the years that Frank served as mayor of Hooversville.

After Frank passed away in 1990, Ida continued in her home; however, she was drawn to move close to her Guymon family in 1997. After moving, Ida became an active participant in the Guymon First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed Sunday school, women’s Bible Studies, and served as the chairman of a ladies’ church circle. Ida loved the Lord and studied the Word throughout her life. She especially enjoyed being close to her “Ronnie” and her two granddaughters.

Her husband preceded her in death on January 11, 1990. She was also preceded by four siblings, William Hemminger, Joseph Hemminger Jr. , Frances Bowser, and Dorothy Swaynos.

Survivors include her sister Betty Ickes of Sidmon, Pennsylvania, her son and daughter-in-law , Ronald and Melinda Veres of Guymon. Her granddaughter Melissa Veres Burns and husband Brady of Guymon. Her granddaughter Merrilee Veres Barone and husband Christopher of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Mckinlee Burns, Kaden Burns, Mayer Barone and Madden Barone.

The family is grateful for the loving care and kindness extended to Ida during her days in long term care in the manor. It is their wish that all memorial contributions go to Heritage Community in her honor. Contributions may be directed to the Henson~Novak Funeral Home - P.O. Box 1306 Guymon , Oklahoma  73942
