Helen ‘Bernice’ Barker, of Guymon, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the age of 106 years old. After a very long and happy life, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Bernice was born on December 30, 1914 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Emery A and Ollie A Copeland. She graduated high school on April, 27, 1933 in Avant, Oklahoma. In 1934, Bernice married the love of her life, Joe, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. After spending a few years in Kansas, Joe and Bernice made their way to Straight, Oklahoma to lay down their roots.
Bernice lived in Straight for 30 years and then moved to Guymon in 1970. Bernice spent most of her life showing love and support to everyone around her. Everyone that knew Bernice, loved her and knew they would be greeted with a big hug, smile, and something freshly baked or a knitted keep’s sake.
Any opportunity that arose she would donate her time and energy to help others. A couple examples was when she worked as a Pink Lady for approximately 30 years at the hospital and actively serving at the Victory Memorial Church.
For the most recent 9 years, Bernice lived at the Heritage Community Assisted Living with a lot of her best friends. When she wasn’t with her friends at the community, Bernice spent her time visiting with family and friends, knitting, baking, making hand towels, and cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Bernice will be deeply missed and remembered forever. She made an impact in every life she touched and loved everyone with her whole heart.
