Obituary

 

Gladys Donita Ottinger was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Beaver County, Oklahoma. The Lord welcomed her home into her eternal rest, September 13, 2023, at the age of 88 years old.   

Gladys was the fifth child of Ted and Bertha Bass. She made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ early in her life. She was raised in the Felt community and attended Wheeless school and Felt Public school.  

Gladys married Guy Lee Ottinger, May 18, 1952, in the First Baptist Church, Boise City, Oklahoma. They began their lives together on the family farm West of Boise City, where they worked alongside one another farming and raising cattle for over 40 years.  They raised five children on the farm, Roger, Doug, Nolan, Larry, Nancy, and two grandsons, Michael and Adam.  

Later in life, Gladys moved to Boise City where she began babysitting for many years. She was known as “Grams” or “Granny” to many. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening, canning, quilting and traveling with her sister Doris and brother-in-law Paul Smith. 

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Roger and Doug, five siblings, Leroy Bass, Walter Bass, Sam Bass, Herb Bass, Norma Vann and one great-granddaughter Madison Ottinger. 

She is survived by three children, Nolan Ottinger, Larry Ottinger and wife Vickie all of Boise City, OK and Nancy Sanders and husband Jim of Sayre, OK. Eleven grandchildren, Michael Ottinger and wife Holly of Marlow, OK, Adam Ottinger and wife Lori of Boise City, OK, Curtis Wiley and wife Jessica of Bromide, OK, Corey Ottinger of Clayton, NM, Kevin Ottinger and wife Francis of Dumas, TX, David Ottinger and wife Erica of Boise City, OK, Brad Ottinger and wife McKenzie of Kaw City, OK, Amber Shannon and husband Jared of Guam, Ryan Sanders and wife Lauren of Piedmont, OK Zach Sanders and wife Kaylee of Elk City, OK and nineteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Dale Bass and wife Joann of Albuquerque, New Mexico and one sister, Doris Smith and husband Paul of Springdale, Arkansas many nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Henson-Novak Funeral Directors in Boise City.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at The First Baptist Church in Boise City with Pastor Trevor Bulls officiating.

Interment will follow in Boise City Cemetery.
