Eugene Fisher Obituary

Eugene Duaine “Gene” Fisher, 88-year-old Guymon, Oklahoma resident passed away Tuesday, August 17 2021 in Guymon. He passed doing what he loved  puttering on the farm.

Gene was born on October 13, 1932, to Hugo and Virgie (Kipper) Fisher in the no man’s land of Guymon Oklahoma. Being born during the “dirty thirties” life on his parents’ farm brought hardships.  His job was to take care of the milk cows.  He separated the cream and took it and several dozen eggs to Guymon to sell to “Woodens”. This was the local area where farmers could sell their goods.  In the winter they would burn coal for warmth and in the summer during dust storms they would hang sheets over the windows and doors to keep the dirt out. Gene remembers cleaning up after some storms by scooping out the living room with a scoop shovel.  One instance Gene remembers waking up in an oxygen tent after falling victim to a case of dust pneumonia.

Gene attended the Guymon school system graduating with the class of 1951.  After high school he attended college at Oklahoma Panhandle State University graduating in 1955.

Gene loved music and started playing the guitar for dances in 1957.  It was at one of these dances that he met Beverly Fay Pierson Latham.

On March 25, 1962, Gene and Beverly were married and they and their son Joe made their home on 18th street.

He wore many hats during his lifetime- farmer , musician, poet , science teacher, ostrich farmer, salesman, dairy inspector, equipment fixer upper and friend. He was known as a kind, witty, quiet and who had a great sense of humor.

Gene was a faithful member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, one son Joe, one sister Dorene Koehn and one brother-in-law Jerry Koehn.

He is survived by two cousins; Jolene Ehret of Shattuck, Ray Stansbury of California, two nephews; John Koehn and wife Angela and Ty Koehn and wife Lisa  all of Mountain View, Missouri. Gene is also survived by his daughter in-law Linda of Liberal, Kansas and many other relatives and a host of friends.
