Elnor Harland

Elnor Marie (Shilling) Harland, 86, longtime Texhoma resident, passed away on March 31, 2024, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

The daughter of Elmer Overton and Buena Marie (Griffin) Shilling, she was born December 31, 1937, in Waverly, Kansas.  The Shillings moved to Texhoma in 1941. Elnor graduated from Texhoma High School and Married Edward Lee Harland on Oct. 10, 1955, and resided in Texhoma. In 1966, she moved to, East of Texhoma along Highway 54 where she resided on her farm/ranch for many years.

Elnor was baptized in the Texhoma Church of Christ then later attended the First Christian Church. She lived compassionately as a caregiver for her parents for several years. Weekly, they would go out to eat at the Texhoma Sale Barn Café.

She worked 25 years for Phillips 66, from 1974 – 1999.  Other jobs included: Yard Supervisor for Texhoma Sale Barn, Truck driver for Texas County and several farmers, 2000 Census, Fast Track Equipment Inventory, and farming/ranching.

She was a lady that wore many hats. Elnor just loved the sport of Rodeo. Guymon Pioneer days and the National Finals were her favorites. Her other hobbies were archaeology, photography, swimming, hiking, traveling, and fishing. Community activities included Kalypso, Red Hats and Texhoma Historical Society.

Elnor Harland was well known in the area and was always willing to stop and engage in friendly conversations. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren; and showed her love by visiting often and attending family events and school events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Buena Shilling, brother, Sam Shilling and ex-husband, Edward Lee Harland.

Survivors include her son, Ron Harland & wife, Cheryl of Guymon OK. Grandsons, Chad Harland and wife Allison of Oklahoma City, OK, Lance Harland and wife Sara of Conroe, Texas. Elnor’s daughter is Tina Harland of Liberal, KS. Granddaughters Taulyn Thomas of Wichita, Kansas, Tashena Peltier of Ordway, Colorado and Lacy Paull of Arlington, Colorado. Elnor is also blessed with 9 great grandchildren.

There will not be any formal visitation or viewing but friends and family are invited to come by the funeral home to sign the register book. The family will be greeting friends at Ron & Cheryl's house from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at The Guymon Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Kason Oakes presiding.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Elnor's name to The OPSU Rodeo Team or to The Texhoma Cemetery Fund and will be accepted by Henson~Novak Funeral Directors P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, Oklahoma.
