Curtis Root

Curtis (Curt) Root, a longtime resident of Guymon, Oklahoma, passed away early Monday morning, June 6, 2022, at Dunaway-Heritage Nursing Center in Guymon. He was 87 years old

Curtis Walter Root was born in Alliance, Nebraska on February 1, 1935, to Walter Daniel Root and Naoma Margery (Larkin) Hanville, Kruse, Root, Bryan. He attended elementary school in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and high school in Gruver, Texas where he enjoyed playing football.

Curt’s father passed away when he was fourteen, so he and his mother moved to a ranch outside of Gruver. After high school Curt attended college at Panhandle A&M graduating with a business degree and always made the Dean's List. Curt was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance, in Guymon, over 40 years.

Curt proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 9th infantry division. On August 25, 1954, Curt was united in marriage to Gloria Faye Trent. They had no children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father, Riley E. Bryan and sisters Marian Anna (Root) Stebens, Robbins, Ellen (Hanville) Henson, Marjorie (Kruse) Alexander and brother Harrison Hanville.

Curt is survived by his wife Gloria of Guymon, niece Judy (Stebens) Voth and husband Ike of Broomfield, CO., nephew Myrl Stebens of Clovis, CA. niece Vicky Johnson and husband Dennis of Crofton, NE., sister-in-law Lois (Trent) Woodrum and husband Robert of Shattuck, OK. and their children, Roberta Chance and husband Gary of Shattuck, Becky Logue of Snyder, TX., Robert Woodrum and wife Margret of Katy TX., sister-in-law Marianne Trent and her daughters Patricia Mitchell and husband Scott of Stillwater, OK. and Susanne Short of Stillwater.

He had many, very close and dear friends that loved him like he was their family! Curt and Gloria loved to dance to country music, almost every weekend.

Service Details

Graveside Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Bill Newman officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to Guymon Animal Shelter with the funeral home accepting the donations.
