The family of Charles Wayne Owens, age 74, is sad to announce his passing on September 4, 2022, in Hardesty, Texas County, Oklahoma.

Charles was born in Holly Creek, McCurtain County, Oklahoma, to Wanda Myrl Billingsley Harkey and Ralph Alonzo Owens.

Charles was raised by his mother and stepfathers Jim Mack Hastings and Roy Lee Flaherty, all of whom preceded him in death. Charles was the third child of six. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Joe Harkey and his younger sister, Beth Hastings Watts. He is survived by one son, Dustin Wayne Owens and wife Sarah; three daughters: Angela Tilley, Melissa Methvin and Donna Leeann Gaulding and their families.

He is also survived by one sister, Barbara Mathis of Broken Bow, OK, and two brothers: Frank Hastings of Houston, TX and Vance Hastings of Lindsay, OK.

Charles graduated from Broken Bow, OK High School and immediately enlisted in the US Army. He served his country in Viet Nam, received an honorable discharged and returned to Oklahoma. Charles began working as a bricklayer. Later he learned and mastered the skills of welding and continued welding throughout his working years.

Charles was a master at “straight-faced story-telling” and delighted in making people laugh! He enjoyed camping, as well as hunting pheasants and deer with old friends. He loved family gatherings, and his grandchildren were very special to him.

Charles served several years on the Hardesty City Council.  He was well known and loved by locals and friends at the Pak-a-Snak!

His life will be celebrated on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 10 am with a graveside service at Hartville Cemetery, Hardesty, OK.
