It was 1971 and a full-on blizzard was roaring. Chuck was 16 and was supposed to read bunks at the feedlot. He took off with the visibility near zero and roads covered in snow. He got in his car and before he got out of the driveway, he got good and stuck. He hoofed it back to the house, took Doug’s car and maybe made it a few feet farther until he buried it as well. They weren’t sure how, but he eventually made it to the yard and finished his job. That is just one example of Chuck’s work ethic starting a very young age. Chuck graduated From Felt High School in 1973 where he attended all 12 years. He was salutatorian but refused to give the speech, and that part of him never changed. He always did exactly what he wanted to do. After graduation, Chuck attended Texas State Technical Institute finishing with a degree in Feedlot Management.
He managed Felt Feedyard after finishing TSTI and ultimately went on to purchase it after he married the love of his life, Margaret Latham on October 29, 1976. Together, Chuck and Margi eventually bought C&M Cattle in Boise City, OK, along with a few ranches and a farm. He worked at the feed lot seven days a week, and when asked why he didn’t slow down, he replied, “because I’m doing what I love.” Chuck bought and sold cattle from at least half of the fifty states and along the way made many lifetime friends. Compassionate, private, honest, hardworking, and extremely intelligent are words that best describe Chuck. His family was his greatest achievement. He never failed to tell them how proud he was of them and how much he loved them.
