Carolyn Rothschopf Obituary

Carolyn Rothschopf, 92, passed away Saturday, January 8th, 2022, at her home here in Guymon.

Carolyn Erle Kirk Rothschopf was born December 4, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the daughter of Earl O. and Mary Lee Towell Kirk. She graduated from Harrah High School where she was Salutatorian of her class. Her family moved to Enid, OK where she attended Phillips University. Enid is where she met her husband and married Kenneth C Rothschopf at the First Presbyterian Church.

The couple then moved to Amarillo, TX. She was employed in the fire and casualty insurance business and was a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church. Their two children, Mary Christine and Kenneth Charles Jr were born in Amarillo. In March 1963 her family moved to Guymon, OK. She and her husband were owners of the Lumber Mart where she worked as secretary and bookkeeper.

Carolyn was very active in civic affairs and she was a charter member and chosen Distinguished Woman of the Year for the Panhandle Business and Professional Women. She served on the Boards of Yucca Girl Scout Council, The Next Step Network, Panhandle State University Foundation and the board of Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. She was also Boy Scout Den Mother. She was a member of Chapter FQ, PEO and served as President and delegate to the International Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Carolyn was a loyal and devoted Presbyterian as a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Guymon. She served an Elder and Commissioner to General Assembly for the Presbyterian Church in 1977. She also served as Secretary, Treasurer and Moderator for Presbyterian Women in both the Synod of the Sun and Cimarron Presbytery. She taught an Adult Sunday School Class for many years, coordinated the Easter lilies and many other special projects.

Carolyn enjoyed gardening, being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and playing bridge. She belonged to two bridge clubs and counted their members as her good friends.
Carolyn was affectionately referred to as Mimi by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many of their friends. She was a matriarch with the love and devotion of her family and community. Through the deep and abundant love for God that led her life we find solace in knowing that she is guided by that light back into the arms of God, her family and friends.
