Bryan Wright Obituary

Guymon, Oklahoma resident, Bryan Lee Wright passed away on February 11, 2021 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas with his wife, Donna and son Christopher by his side. Joining them by Facetime were son, Greg Wright and daughter, Stephanie Hughes.

Bryan was welcomed into the world by his parents, George W. and Hazel Bryan Wright on April 13, 1939 at Optima, Oklahoma. His sister, Margaret was happy to have a brother, and they shared a special bond until his passing.

The Oklahoma Panhandle remained Bryan’s home throughout his life, with the exception, of years spent working toward higher education. George and Hazel instilled a love for the family’s farm in Bryan, so he always enjoyed driving out to check on the crops, after a day in the office.

Bryan’s early years included attending school in Optima and Guymon, Oklahoma. He was active in sports, theater, choir and FFA. He was a 1962 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. degree in business, and a M.S. degree in accounting. Bryan became a Certified Public Accountant in 1965, and practiced in the profession for a time, working with Touche Ross in Arizona before returning to Washburn University in Topeka, KS where he received his Decree of Juris Doctorate as a graduate of law. He was an active member of Phi Alpha Delta, legal fraternity and Beta Alpha Psi, accounting fraternity. Bryan was admitted to the Bar in both Oklahoma and Kansas in 1966, in 1969 he was admitted to practice in the U.S District Court, District of Kansas, U.S District Court, Western District of Oklahoma and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit, and in 1977, U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the Texas County Bar Association, as well, as the Oklahoma, Kansas and the American Bar Associations. In 2016, Bryan was proudly recognized by the Oklahoma Bar Association for 50 years of Service.

Bryan came back to Guymon in 1966 to practice law. He joined the firm of Dale, Belanger and Wright, as a partner, eventually having a name & ownership change to Wright, Dale & Jett, and most recently in 2021 to Wright & Dale Law Office. He was the City Attorney for Guymon from 1966 – 1974. Bryan had an exceptional ability for working with numbers and retaining information regarding financial planning and properties belonging to his clients. His longstanding relationship with many of his clients, created a strong bond of trust and friendship. He was recognized by Panhandle Telephone Cooperative Inc. in 2016 as their legal counsel for 40 years of service. He was still holding that position until 2021 when his health began to fail.

Throughout the years of completing his studies toward higher education and fulfilling the goal of becoming a CPA and Attorney, Bryan also served in the United States Army Reserve receiving an honorable discharge in April of 1965.

Bryan and his wife Donna Thrasher Wright were united in marriage on December 5, 1980 in Raton, New Mexico. During their forty years of marriage, they have enjoyed creating a beautiful home together, traveling, building new friendships, proudly watched their family grow through marriages, grandchildren, and great – grandchildren, and being active members of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church.
