Alan Messenger, 63, of Guymon, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Alan Ray Messenger was born November 17, 1959, to Keith and Virginia (Lawrence) Messenger. He attended Dighton, Kansas public schools graduating with the class of 1978. During school, Alan was very active with the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school he attended Fort Hays State University, graduating in 1982 with a degree in Ag Business.
Throughout college and after, he worked at the Mumma Feedyard in Dighton, Kansas before starting his lifetime career at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
On November 7, 1992, Alan was united in marriage to Shurma Rae (Milburn) in Rolla, Kansas.
They resided in Hugoton for eight years before they moved their family to Guymon in the Fall of 2000.
He was a member and Elder of the First Christian Church in Guymon, always ready to lend a hand to keep the church looking its best. In addition to his service to the church, he assisted with the local Boys Scout troop his son is a member of. Alan liked to stay busy, working on his garden, helping with harvest, woodworking, and acting as an unofficial handyman at home and at church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Messenger.
Alan is survived by his mother Virginia Messenger of Dighton, Kansas, his wife Shurma of the home, one daughter: Audra Messenger of Guymon, three sons: Garrett Messenger of Hooker, Oklahoma, Russ Messenger of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Wyatt Messenger of Guymon, two sisters: Diane Barrett and husband Jim of Manhattan, Kansas and Lisa Moomaw and husband Dan of Dighton, Kansas. He is also survived by many other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, at First Christian Church in Guymon with Pastor Larry Watson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made out to the First Christian Church, Loaves and Fishes, and Scout Troop 163 in Guymon with the funeral home accepting the donations.
