Vancy Elliott Obituary

Vancy Ruth Elliott, 77, of Guymon, Oklahoma, passed from this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 30, 2018.

Vancy Ruth Rice was born to Emogene (Lay)and Melvin Lloyd Rice on July 18, 1940 in Big Spring, Texas.  The Rice family made Guymon their home when Vancy was very young and she attended Guymon schools.  Vancy went on to receive her B.S. and Masters degree in education.  She was united in marriage to Delmer Lee Elliott on August 2, 1960.   Vancy made Salyer Elementary School her first grade home from 1968 until her retirement in 1995.  Many of her former students remember her to this very day.  They all have the same words to describe Mrs. Elliott:  “She was my very favorite teacher.”  “I loved her.” and “She always gave me a hug and told me she loved me.”  Vancy loved all “her kids”, as she called them, and teaching was truly her passion.  She was also an excellent mentor and made a life-long impact on the lives of so many people.  She is, was, and will always be a phenomenal woman.  She loved with her whole heart and always had a kind word to say and a smile on her face.  She was a woman of true integrity and character.

Vancy and Delmer were members of Victory Center in Guymon, where Vancy taught Sunday school and children’s church for many years.  She had a very special way with children, and always wanted to make sure they knew Jesus loved them!  Vancy loved and shaped every one of her students in school and in church.  Vancy loved her husband, family and friends, even more.  She was beautiful inside and out and will be greatly missed by many.

Vancy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Delmer Elliott; her sister, Melva Jean Shaffer and husband, Gene of Alvin, TX; two brothers, Roy Rice and wife, Jerrie, Raymond Rice and wife, Cheryl, all of Guymon; many loved nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; her aunts, Barbara Lay and Dorothy Henderson of Guymon; and very dear friends, Michael, Brenda and Jaysen McClenagan, and Wanda and Ivan Smith, of Guymon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Emogene Rice.
