Ted Berry

November 26, 1919 ~ October 28, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Ted A. Berry of Texhoma, OK, left this earth to be present with the Lord in the early morning hours on October 28, 2017, with family by his side 29 days shy of his 98th birthday, at Cold Water Manor Nursing Home in Stratford, TX.

Ted was born November 26, 1919, on the family farm west of Texhoma, OK.  Ted rode horseback to Sunny Side School, which was a country school located three miles from their homestead by the Beaver River.  He graduated from Texhoma High School with the class of 1938.

Ted married Laura Anne Dodson at Spearman, TX, on August 18, 1948.  Ted and Anne were lifelong farmers and ranchers.  They raised three children, Andy, Brannock, and Barbara, on their family farm and ranch 8 ½ miles west of Texhoma, where Ted raised registered Hereford cattle and farmed. 

Ted was a lifelong active member of the Texhoma United Methodist Church where he served on several boards.  Ted was Top Judge of the Hereford Association, and he won Top Cowboy in 2007.  He was also a founder and charter member of the Texhoma Roping Club.  He loved good horses, good cattle, and good crops, and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and OU.

He is preceded in death by his, wife, Laura Anne Dodson, of 58 years; parents, Frank Mabry Berry, Sr., and Mary Amanda “Mae” Flanagan; one brother, Frank, Jr.; and one sister, Marie Oldaker.

Ted is survived by two sons, Andy Berry and wife Lenora of Texhoma, OK, and Joe Brannock Berry and wife Mary Oralia of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Barbara Anne Berry of Albuquerque, NM; three grandsons, Lee Berry of Bushland, TX; Levi Berry and wife Jesse of Happy, TX; Ace Berry and wife Amy of Texhoma, OK; and seven great-grandchildren, Kelton and Olin of Bushland, TX; Daisy, Emily, and Jane of Happy, TX; Jacqueline and Taggert of Texhoma, OK, and other family members.

The family wants to thank the nursing staffs at Cold Water Manor Nursing Home, Accolade Homecare, and Texas County Memorial Hospital for all of their care and compassion.

Visitation will be at the Texhoma United Methodist Church on October 31, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Texhoma United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Jenkins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Texhoma Cemetery.  Friends may sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hensonnovak.com.
