Olen Tevebaugh Obituary

Olen Tevebaugh passed from this life on June 13, 2018, in Amarillo, Texas. The youngest of four children, Olen Laverne Tevebaugh was born on March 18, 1935, at home in rural Campo, Colorado, to Thelma (Kohler) and Jesse Ward Tevebaugh. After a short time in Campo, and then the Kohler Ranch, Ward moved his young family to the Griggs area of Cimarron County where Olen started the first grade and later graduated from Plainview School in 1953. From high school, Olen first worked on the Hayhook Ranch in Pampa, Texas, and then joined the US Army in 1956, where he served in Germany. Upon returning to the states and civilian life, Olen moved back to Boise City, where he met and married Eileen Like in 1961. The couple moved to the Griggs home and shared 47 happy years together. To their union three children were born, Jess, Jim and Connie. Along with raising children, Olen and Eileen grew milo, wheat and other crops, but Olen’s true love was cattle. Olen could often be found horseback checking livestock, or in the pens working cattle. He enjoyed the challenge of buying 300 lbs steers and straightening them up. Olen also loved to rope and spent many happy days and evenings with friends and family attending rodeos and hosting ropings in his home arena. Always punctual, you could expect him to arrive at least an hour early to everything.  Ever the cowboy, Olen also regularly attended cow sales, even if he wasn’t buying, and could often be found helping neighbors gather or brand their own livestock. Once the grandchildren were born, Olen passed on his work ethic and cowboy heritage to them by having them horseback and in the pens at a young age. After losing Eileen, Olen spent a few joyful months married to Barbara Thrash and was greatly saddened at her passing. Olen also held a special bond with Barbara’s children Billy and Jonna.

Olen was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Thelma Tevebaugh, wife, Eileen Like Tevebaugh, sister, Reba Tevebaugh Sellers, sister in law, Freda Martin Tevebaugh, niece Donnita Barnes, great niece MaDonna Barnes, and wife, Barbara Thrash Tevebaugh. He is survived by his children, Jess and Sherree Tevebaugh of Boley, OK, Jim and Lorrie Tevebaugh, of Amarillo, TX, Connie and Eric Werner, of Spearman TX, grandchildren, Abbie and Dustin Ellis, of Boley, OK, Marla and Colby Thrall of Boise City, OK, Clay and Stephanie Tevebaugh of Clackamas, OR, Shaylin and Chris Kaslon of Chickasha, OK, Ashley and Kyle Frerich of Texline, TX, Clint Tevebaugh and girlfriend Amber of Paden, OK, Jamey Tevebaugh of Amarillo, TX, Steffan Werner of Seiling, OK, and Laura Belle Werner of Stillwater, OK, brother, Clayton Tevebaugh of Campo, CO, and sister, Alberta and Jerry Shannon, of Boise City, OK. Olen also leaves behind 12 great grandchildren, many loved nieces and nephews, Army buddies, and lots of close friends and neighbors.
