Max D. Whipple, 78, longtime Guymon, Oklahoma resident, passed away Saturday morning, June 9, 2018 at the Heritage Community.
The son of Winifred (Winnie) Lemon and Ivan Marvin Whipple, Max Dwyane was born October 7, 1939 in Lingle, Wyoming. Max attended Lingle schools and later graduated from Colorado Teacher’s College, (U.N.C.) in Greeley, Colorado. Max was united in marriage to Joyce Joan Keller on June 15, 1958 in Torrington, Wyoming. Max and Joyce and their growing family, lived in Greeley for many years, where Max owned and operated Stockman’s Western Wear. Max also worked in retail and insurance, and had more recently worked at Lumber Mart in Guymon. Max considered himself a “Servant of the Lord” and he was an active member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where he and Joyce enjoyed the Primetimers. Max was a longtime volunteer with A.A., as it was a group that had encouraged him for the past 28 years. Faith and family were everything to Max, he adored his bride and loved following and encouraging his children and grandchildren in all of their activities and life events.
Max will be missed by his wife, Joyce, of the home in Guymon; daughter, Jody McNerney and husband, Tim, of Highlands Ranch, CO: three sons, Justin Whipple and wife, Kelli, of Greeley; Ivan Whipple and wife, Cheri, of Aurora, CO; and Max A. Whipple and wife, Hattie, of Beaver, OK; his sister, Patricia Motsick of Lingle; sisters-in-law, Elsie Schaneman, Judi Keller and Marcel Havman. He was the always proud and adoring Gramps, Grandpa or Pa to his nine grandchildren and their spouses, Desiraye Cabrera, (Joe), Austin Whipple (Anna), Sierra Whipple, Derek Whipple (Margaret), Tyler Whipple (Sarah), Joanna, Jax, John and Jillian Whipple; nine great grandchildren, Kainen, Kohen & Ayla Whipple, Brody, Quentin & Maizy Cabrera, Callie, Stella and Hunter Don Whipple. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Ivan Whipple, father and mother-in-law, Alex and Christina Keller, brothers-in-law, Gerry Keller, Roger Keller, Alex Schaneman and Ken Snow, and sister-in-law, Helen Snow.
Viewing will be Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth , on Thursday, 1:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Friday morning, June 15th, 11:00 AM at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 523 North Roosevelt, Guymon, with Rev. Max A. Whipple and Pastor Dave Player, officiating.
Graveside services will be Saturday afternoon, June 16, 3:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Greeley, Colorado.
