Lotus Smith Obituary

Lotus Lee (Johnston) Smith 88 year old Hooker, Oklahoma resident passed away Wednesday, August 7th, 2019 at her residence in Hooker.  She left this world for somewhere over the rainbow to join her husband Doug, Dad and Mom, Joe Brooks, Joyce King Johnston her brother David and many other friends and relatives.

Lotus was born July 31st, 1931 to Joe and Bertha (King) Johnston. She attended Hooker public schools graduating with the class of 1949. Lotus attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University for a couple years and that is where she met the love of her life Doug Smith of Elkhart, KS. They later married on May 20th, 1950 in Taos, New Mexico

Lotus and Doug raised all five of their children in Hooker and (all graduated from Hooker High School) Now they are scattered from Washington to New York.  Lotus is survived by son Earl Quincy and Esther Smith of Dallas, Texas; Daughter Sharetta (Shari) and Dwain Miller of Hooker, Oklahoma; son Terry Shannon and Debbie Smith of Orting, Washington; daughter Anita (Ann) and Husband Larry Blankenship of Hooker, Oklahoma; Daughter Mica Jo and Rebb Haynes of Cherokee, Oklahoma. Lotus also leaves to cherish her memory 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, one brother Joe B. and wife Pat Johnston of Norman, Oklahoma , one sister Peggy Joyce Record of Carriere Mississippi, plus a very special couple Bob Q. and Sue Smith of Portland, Oregon.  She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and co-workers to cherish her memory.

Lotus thoroughly enjoyed watching NCIS, Yellowstone, Dallas Cowboy football and was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan. She also played the piano in church and at the school and also taught many students.

Lotus enjoyed spending time at her cabin at Ute Park, New Mexico. She was a licensed Pilot and helped operate the airport in Hooker for many, many years.

Lotus was preceded in death by her Husband Doug Smith, Her Parents and Her Brother David

Her later life was made very interesting and joyful by granddaughter Jamie Locke and her two children, Jacob and Halea who lived and cared for her.

Viewing will be Friday August 9th, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. at Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Guymon.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at The First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Mike Reynolds officiating.

Memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and The Masonic Lodge of Hooker #366 and also may be sent to Henson-Novak Funeral Home P.O. box 1306 Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
