Larry Glendon Capansky, 77, passed away quietly at home on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Austin, TX.  He was born September 1, 1939, in Clayton, N.M.,to Sylvia Lorene and Glenn Andrew Capansky. He weighed 12 1/2 pounds! A Labor Day baby indeed.

During his early childhood years, the family travel often and lived in various cities and communities throughout the Midwestern states. As a young boy, he attended the Methodist Church and was baptized in the Baptist Church, in Boise City. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1957.

During his late teens and early adulthood years, he worked with his father, on several oil rigs throughout LA, TX and OK.
At the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1959, and completed the lineman course in Fort Gordon, GA. He completed basic training at Fort Chaffee, AK., and later trained as a paratrooper. As a private first class, he served in Seoul, Korea, one of his duties was to guard the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

Larry wore several different hats in various occupations. He worked as the meat market manager for Coly's food store in Boise City and created his own exclusive brick chili and other meat specialties.

He had several passionate hobbies and interests. As a young boy and throughout his life, he loved to build and fly model airplanes. He held various offices in the Flying Tigers RC Club in Guymon for many years. His second passion was motorcycles, he purchased his first Harley motorcycle in 1947, at the age of 12 for $125. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed his retirement years at the gun range with friends. He was a master gardener and masonary.

In February 14, 1962, he married Cecilia Henley, of Boise City, in Clayton. To this union was born, a daughter, Rita Capansky. Larry is survived by two sisters, Nancy Loftis and Dee Anne Farris and one granddaughter, Chelsea Rose Houdyshell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by both his parents, grandparents, and sister.

A celebration of life service will be held this Saturday, May 20, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. in Boise City, followed by a military graveside service in Kenton, OK. Services have been entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.  Family and friends may sign the guest book and leave an online condolence at www.hensonnovak.com.
