Jerry Shannon
Boise City, Oklahoma – Jerry Shannon, 90, lifelong Cimarron County resident, passed away Saturday evening, February 9, 2019 at Cimarron Memorial Hospital.
Jerry Lee Shannon was born to Sylvia (Gordon) and Jesse Dean Shannon on October 3, 1928 near Johnson, Kansas. The family worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and lived near the Felt, Oklahoma. A proud United States Marine, Jerry served his country as an aircraft mechanic, receiving an honorable discharge in 1948. He was united in marriage to the beautiful neighbor girl, Alberta Tevebaugh on June 2, 1951 at the Clayton, NM Methodist Church. Jerry and Alberta worked hard and raised their family in Cimarron County. Jerry was a carpenter and electrician, working many years for TM Deal Lumber and later for Combs Lumber Company in Boise City. He served as Boise City Manager for 25 year, retiring in 1990.
Jerry was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church and was active in the VFW, Boise City Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. He served on many community and state boards, including a long stint with the OEDA, Oklahoma Economics Development Authority, based in Beaver, Oklahoma.
Jerry is survived by his bride of 67 years, Alberta Shannon, two sons, Mark Shannon of Boise City and Micheal Shannon and wife, Lori of Guymon; his brother, Roy Shannon Judd and wife, Louise of Hooker, OK; and brother-in-law, Clayton Tevebaugh of Campo, Colorado. He is Papa to grandchildren, Matthew Shannon, Jesse Shannon and wife, Alicia, and Megan Barton and five great grandsons, Kyler, Kolten, Sawyer, Cooper and Fletcher Shannon.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be at Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, 700 West Main Street, Boise City on Tuesday, February 12th, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning, February 13th, 11:00 AM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 400 East Main, Boise City with Pastor John Miller of Hope Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will U.S. Marine funeral honors will follow in Boise City Cemetery.
