Imogene (Jeanne) C. Henson

Imogene C. (Jeanne) Henson, 88, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 12, 2017 at Sundance Memory Care Community, Katy, TX. 

She was born July 12, 1929, to Robert and Bertha Mathiot in Peabody, Kansas.  After graduating from Marion High School in 1947, Jeanne moved to Newton, Kansas and began working at the local gas company.  She met Marlin Henson soon after and they were married on September 12, 1948.  In 1952, she and Marlin purchased the McElroy Funeral Home in Guymon, which became Henson Funeral Home with the later partnership of Loyd Peterson.  Jeanne became a licensed Funeral Director alongside Marlin, and they served the community until retirement in 1990. Marlin and Jeanne enjoyed traveling and visiting their family.  Marlin passed away in 2010 and Jeanne moved to Houston, Texas in 2014, where she has resided at the Sundance Memory Care Community until her death.

Jeanne was a devoted member at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where she was an active in the Martha Ruth Circle, the clothing ministry and sang in the Chancel Choir for many years.  She was a long standing member of the Order of Eastern Star.  Jeanne enjoyed golfing and bridge with Marlin and friends.  She was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet and husband, Bud Blackmore, Weston Lakes, Texas; one son Robert Henson and wife Marlene, Guymon; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Blackmore and wife, Julie, Pearland, Texas, Dr. Mark Blackmore and wife, Ashley, Coppell, Texas, Jamie Leathers and husband, Kody, and Nicole Hillman all of Boise, Idaho; four-great granddaughters, Emily, Sarah, Adelyn and Anna Rose Blackmore; sister Lois and husband, Al Chill, Oklahoma City and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marlin, parents Bob and Bertha Mathiot, and brother Max Mathiot.

Memorial services will be Saturday, 2:00 PM, December 16th at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary Holdeman, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery and services are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
