Welcome to the memorial page for

Colton Lee Hughes

October 7, 2017

Colton Lee Hughes was born September 1, 1991 in Oklahoma City to Kari Dawn Hughes and Mike Wilkerson.  He lived with and provided care for his grandmother, Florene Hughes in Eustace, Texas.  Colton and his grandmother moved to Eustace when Colton was in the seventh grade and upon entering high school there, Colton joined the High School Marching Band and played the tuba, which was as big as he was.  He loved music, especially Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn and he constantly practiced his guitar, the piano and singing.  Among his proudest moments was when he was elected Eustace High School Prom King his senior year.  After graduation, Colton attended Trinity Valley Community College.

Colton, at 25 years of age, passed away March 8, 2017, in his home in Eustace, Texas.  As Colton wished, his final resting place on this earth, as his spirit joined our God in Heaven, is the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, where a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.

Colton was preceded in death by grandparents, Jim and Joy Hughes and Maxine and Wayne Wilkerson, great-grandmother Margaret Shields Hughes, great-grandparents Floyd and Elinor Guynn and his best friend Kirby LaChel Grimes .  Also, preceding Colton in death is their beloved family English Mastiff, Rocco.  Though Rocco was his Uncle Ed’s dog, Rocco was the “family” dog, Colton’s buddy and pal.

Colton is survived by his mother and step-father, Kari and Michael Woods, his grandmother, Florene Hughes, his father, Mike Wilkerson, his Uncle Lee Hughes, his Uncle Ed and Aunt Sandra Dickson, his great-aunt Donita McCarrell, his “Uncle” Rodney and “Aunt” Mary Chryl Gray, his Aunt Phyllis and J.R. Hatfield and his Aunt Jodi Wilkerson, along with many loving cousins and wonderful and loving friends in his life and his best friend and “little sister”, Tommi Bane.

It would honor Colton for donations to be made to Autism Speaks at www.autismspeaks.org or the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention at www.afsp.org.
