Bill L'Roy Obituary

Bill L'Roy longtime Guymon, Oklahoma resident passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 90

Bill Gerald L’Roy was born to Virginia Majers L’Roy and William Barnett L’Roy on July 12, 1927 In Abernathy, Texas. He married Velma Brown L’Roy on April 2, 1945 in Dumas Texas and enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage. Bill joined the United States Marines stationed in California.  Their daughter, Carolyn Jo, was born while Bill was stationed there.  Later, son, Jerry Lynn was born in Guymon, Oklahoma.  Bill worked for Phillips 66 at the Sherhan Plant and later worked at Perkins Petroleum for more than 50 years.  Bud and Si Perkins were not only Bill’s employers, but very dear friends as well.  Bill did a lot of things in his life, but was well known in Guymon for community service. As a longtime Mason, Bill was a 63 year member of AF&AM, Lodge #335, and had helped school  children with the Masonic eye exam program. He was a long time member of the Guymon Lions Club and received the highest achievement award. He so enjoyed helping the children the Christmas Shopping Spree program. He was happy to help anywhere he was needed from restoration of Guymon parks, picking up trash, and painting the basement of the church.  Bill was an avid tennis player, coached little league baseball teams and enjoyed working on his home and in the yard.   His Christian faith was very strong and important to Bill.  He had been living in Kearney, Nebraska at Mt. Carmel nursing home.  Heaven was waiting for him, and it was a glorious site when he went.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn and husband, Lynn Long of Guymon; son, Jerry L’Roy and wife, Rosa Anne of Kearney, NE; four grandchildren, Tya Mantooth and Trey Long of Guymon; Tanae and husband Cory Clark; and Brandon Pearson,  all of Edmond, OK; nine great grandchildren, Layna Eldridge, Kadan Mantooth, Rance and Laramie Long, Ashlyn, Kolby, Kylam, Lyla and Emersyn Clark.  He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie L’Roy of Amarillo, TX, Kathy and Larry Brown of Ft. Supply, OK and Bob Roth of Buffalo, OK, and many special nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and their wives, Onell and Lou L’Roy, Robert and Audie L’Roy, and Muriel L’Roy.  He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law on Velma’s side of the family, Joy and Elige Payne, Harry and Betty Brown, Judy Roth, Harley Brown, Buddy and JoAnn Grayson, Wilma and Lee Lane.  

Visitation will be at the Henson-Novak Funeral Home, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon on Wednesday, 5:00-8:00 PM. 

Funeral services will be Thursday morning, June 28th, 10:00 AM at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 709 North Ellison, Guymon with Pastor Van Heckle, officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery of Guymon.

Memorials may be given to the Tabernacle Baptist Church or Guymon Masonic Lodge, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK  73942.
