Betty Henshaw Obituary

Betty Henshaw, 82, lifelong Boise City community resident, passed away Thursday evening, June 27, 2019 at Cimarron Memorial Hospital.

Betty Lou Wright was born to Ethel Effie (Green) and Ray Oran Wright on April 5, 1937 on the family farm west of Dalhart, Texas.  Betty was the first-born child of seven in the Wright family. She helped around the house and attended to her younger siblings and later worked at the local drug store during her high school years.  Her cousin, Jack Green, lived with the family for a period of time and was like a brother.  Betty attended Boise City schools, where she graduated from high school.

Betty was united in marriage to Ronald Duane Henshaw on August 15, 1964 at the Boise City Baptist Church.  She worked at the ASCS office, before they started having their family, and then she stayed home to help on the farm and raise their three children.  Betty and Ronnie worked hard and enjoyed their years owning and running the bowling alley.  She would hesitantly jump in Ronnie’s airplane and they would take friends to compete at bowling tournaments.  Betty loved all children, all babies, but of course loved her own babies the most.  She was so proud of her family and adored each one!  Betty was a fully devoted Christian and friendly neighbor.  She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she volunteered and served as the director of the nursery department for over 20 years and served as VBS director for many years as well.  It was with great joy that she purchased and gave every baby in the nursery a small Bible. For many years, Betty and friends volunteered in the truck stop ministry that distributed Bibles and food to truckers coming through town.   She always made people feel special by sending them a card every year on their birthday. Betty will never be forgotten as someone who served her Lord and Savior faithfully and unconditionally.  After raising her family, Betty went back to her job at the ASCS office which later was renamed the FSA office.  Betty and Ronnie celebrated almost 53 years of marriage, before his passing on May 2, 2017.

Betty is survived by her three children, Ronda Gregory (Jon) of Stillwater, OK, Arlevia Bulls (Curt) and Ray Henshaw, all of Boise City; five sisters, Pat Hale (Carroll) of Lubbock, TX, Doris Wardlaw of Edmond, OK, Nadine Fry (Eldean) of Bolivar, MO, Yvonne Parker (Roy) of College Station, TX, Fayrene Sweek of Maui, Hawaii and her dear friend and caretaker, Sharon Pate.  She was known as “Grandma” to her nine perfect grandchildren, Zandy Halcomb, Nichole Dyer, Rocky Chapman, Jackie Finn, Zach Gregory (Makayla), Morgan and Trey Gregory and Cady and Colby Bulls, and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Oran Wright, two brothers-in-law, Chet Wardlaw and Jim Sweek and five angel grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday afternoon, July 13th, 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Boise City, with Rev. Chantry Davis and Rev. Trevor Bulls officiating.  Interment of cremains will be in Boise City Cemetery.  Services and cremation are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Boise City.
