Wallace "Nate" Fawcett

Wallace “Nate” Franklin Fawcett, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2018 at Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas.

The son of Nathan Franklin Fawcett  and Elma Mae Fawcett, he was born December 5,  1923 in Fall City, Kansas.   He graduated from Webb City High School in Webb City, Oklahoma before enlisting in the United States Navy in October, 1942.  Nate served 3 years as a Fire Controlman on the destroyer USS Maury and was involved in fierce battles in Guadacanal, Vellas Lavella and the Hula Gulf.  Following the capture of the Gilbert and the Marshall Islands, later engagements were in Sipan, Guam and the Philippines.    He was honorably discharged from the Navy in December 1945 and in 2014 was selected to participate in DFW Honor Flight 19.  Distinguished veterans were escorted to Washington DC to visit the National World War II Memorial and other historic sites.

Nate was united in marriage to Weurta Lee Davidson on Christmas Eve, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Guymon, Oklahoma.  He graduated from Oklahoma A & M University, Stillwater, in 1955 with a degree in Geology.  Following a long career as a petroleum geologist with Phillips Petroleum in Midland, Texas, he then became an independent petroleum geology consultant with Kerr McGee Corporation in Oklahoma City. 

Nate was a member of the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, and a Master Mason, Grand Lodge of Texas Acacia Lodge No. 414.  He also served as an assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. Favorite activities included spending time with his family, farming,  playing golf, hunting and geological studies.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Weurta Lee, his parents, two sisters, and son Glenn Alan Fawcett who passed away February 15, 1974. 

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy and husband, Bill Langhenry of Dallas, TX; two sons, Michael Owen Fawcett of Austin, TX; and Chris Franklin Fawcett and wife Aronda, of Dodge City, KS;  five grandchildren, Jennifer Parker of Tulsa, OK;  Rochelle Pyle of Topeka, KS;  Nicholas Fawcett of Hayes, KS; Billy Langhenry and Nathan Langhenry of Dallas, TX; and two great grandchildren, Gavyn and Caden Pyle.

The Fawcett family will receive friends at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 523 North Roosevelt, Guymon, Oklahoma at 11:00 AM to noon on Saturday.  Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Player, pastor, officiating.   Military honors will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.
