Sharon Barkley

Gruver, Texas – Sharon Barkley, 73, passed away Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at Hansford County Hospital, Spearman, Texas.

The daughter of Mary Lynn (Barris) and I.W.Ayres, Jr., Sharon Faye was born November 19, 1943 in Shattuck, Oklahoma.  She graduated from Gruver schools and married her forever sweetheart, Leslie Barkley on August 20, 1961 at the Gruver First Baptist Church.  Faith and family were the cornerstones of Sharon’s well lived life.  The Barkleys farmed in the Gruver area and Sharon helped on the farm, whether it be driving the grain cart or cooking at harvest.  She was active in her church and community.  She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, continued to volunteer with VBS and helped anyway she could.  Sharon was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed volunteering at the Hansford Manor, but she loved her job as Grandma the very most.  She not only adored her own grandchildren, but was “Grandma” to most of Gruver.

She is survived by her forever sweetheart and husband of 55 years, Les Barkley; daughter, Sharolyn and husband, Rick Finley of Gruver; son, Barry Barkley and wife, Kerri of Perryton, Texas; sister, Rosalyn McClenagan of Gruver and brother, Bruce Ayres of Abilene, Texas; six grandchildren, Blythe and husband,  Aaron Boyd of Gruver; Alicia and husband, Jey Hinshaw of Perryton; Cason Finley and wife, Brittany of Spearman; Jake Barkley of Amarillo; Tiffani Barkley of Perryton and Trenton Finley of Gruver; two great grandchildren, Jacey and Trey Hinshaw with a third,  Baby Boyd, on the way.  She is also survived by sister-in-law, Estelle Chambers of Dalhart, Texas and brother-in-law, Rod Barkley and wife, Pat of Gruver.

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Celebration of life services will be Monday morning, June 19th, 11:00 AM at Gruver First Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott Curry, pastor, officiating.  Interment will be in Gruver Cemetery and are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Guymon, Oklahoma.
