Melba Ruth Fox was the daughter of Melvin and Ines Costner born on October 30, 1927, and she reunited with those who went on before her on April 19, 2018. She graduated from Guymon School and attended a business college in Colorado. Ruth married her life partner, John Albert Fox, on July 15, 1950. They began their marriage in Corona, CA, where John was stationed in the Marine Corp; there they had their first daughter, Johnita Joy. They were then stationed in Florida for a time. After John left the service, they made their home in Texas County, Oklahoma, where they had their second child, Mike. Ruth always supported John, whether it was spending time on his airplane, taking care of cattle, or in his career with the family owned machine shop. She worked outside the home as a cook at the public school & later became a teller at Guymon First National Bank. After her husband of 48 years passed away in 1999, she later married Norman Fischer on February 13, 2005, and enjoyed spending time with him and his family until his death on February 13, 2013.
Ruth, often called “Ruthie”, “Nana”, or “Nana Ruth” by those who loved her, will always be remembered as someone who loved the Lord and followed the Christian principles of her faith. She had a quiet, gentle nature, and always saw others through the love of Christ and hardly, if ever, spoke ill of someone. She was a hard worker no matter the task and enjoyed “puttering around” and taking care of whoever was in her care. Her greatest joy was being with her family and spending time at their cabin, the Fox’s Den, in Cuchara, Colorado.
Ruth was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church but later began attending Morning Star United Methodist Church with her daughter’s family in 2013. She loved baking, playing a mean game of dominos or cards, and was active in Garden Club for many years.
She leaves so many good memories to those of us who loved her so much. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Johnita Gloden. She was survived in death by one son, Dr. Michael Fox and his wife, Lanae; son-in-law, Bobby Gloden; grandchildren, Misty Bartels and her husband, Kyle, Sarah Fox, Jonathon Fox, and Haley Fox; one great-grandson, Seth Bartels; and a host of dear family and friends.
