Gary Parish

December 9, 1950 ~ December 15, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Gary L. Parish, 66, passed away Thursday, December 15th, 2016 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

The son of Pauline (Kahn) and Jay Parish, Gary Lyle was born December 9, 1950 in Liberal, Kansas.  He was raised in Liberal and graduated with the LHS Class of 1969.  He was united in marriage to Karen Sharkey on February 14, 1969 in Guymon.  Gary began his oilfield career with OXY, retiring as a lease operator after 35 years.  He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  Karen and Gary made their home in Guymon, where they worked hard and raised their daughters.  They were loyal fans of the Guymon Tigers, whether it be a daughters’ or grandchildren’s event.  After retirement, they moved to the Lake Texoma area in 2013.  Gary enjoyed fishing and loved teaching the kids how to fish; traveling and boating with Karen, occasional trips to the casino, and spending time with family.    He was the proud Papaw at his grandkids’ events and he loved his family very much.  Gary had a special place in his heart for his friends at the lake.

The Parish family is very appreciative of the excellent care and concern the entire staff at Oklahoma Heart Hospital and his surgical team, Dr. John Randolph, and nurses, Matt, Deron, Steve, Linda and Sheila.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen Parish;  three daughters, Crystal Landes and husband, Greg of Guymon; Kelli Jones and husband, Josh of Midland, TX; Kaci Whisenhunt and husband, Nathan of Roanoke, TX; three brothers, Jim Parish of Dodge City; Rocky Parish and wife Anita, of Gun Barrel City, Texas and Kenny Parish of The Colony, Texas.  He was adoring “Papaw“ to his eight grandchildren, Taylor, Ryanne, Maggie and Ian Landes; Kyndall, Jacob and Allison (Alli Bear) Jones; and Parker Merrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, nephew Bart Parish, and his paternal grandmother.

Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, December 21st, 2:00 PM at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 1212 North Crumley, Guymon with Pastor Mark Wescoatt, officiating.

The family has asked, in lieu of floral gifts, that memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Camp Lutherhaven,  and can be mailed to the church or Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306 Guymon, OK  73942.
