December 19, 1918 ~ November 18, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old

 "F.A." Francis A. Shapley, Jr., 98, lifelong Hansford County resident, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Hansford Manor, Spearman, Texas.

The son of pioneers, Myrtie Mae (Morrison) and “Frank” Francis Abner Shapley, Sr., was born December 19, 1918 at Hansford, Texas.  As a young man, F.A. loved band in high school and graduated from Gruver High School with the class of 1936.  After attending business college, he was united in marriage to Wilma Alvalene Langley on October 16, 1937 in Pryor, Oklahoma.  The Shapleys farmed and ranched in Hansford County.  They loved spending time with their family, spending summers at their Colorado cabin that F.A. built for all his family to enjoy, and wintering in Arizona. F.A. also enjoyed wood working, making stained glass, flying his private plane.   He loved life and enjoyed joking and playing practical jokes on family and friends.  He was a good neighbor, a good Christian, and loved to help others.  He was a lifelong member of Gruver United Methodist Church, and was active in the Gruver Lodge #1326, AF&AM and Eastern Star.  

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 5 sisters; Wilma, his wife of 49 years; son, "Pete" Francis Shapley, III; and a great grandson, Kelsey Phillips.

F.A. is survived by two daughters, Deanna Williams of Gruver; Mary Tim Shook and husband, Eddy of Sunray, TX; son, David Shapley and wife, Ingrid of Lakewood, CO.  The Shapleys were blessed with eleven  grandchildren, Andy Shapley, Leah Miller, Todd Shapley, Cheryl Phillips, Laurie Rosa, Kyle Williams, Katie Robinson, Kalee Shook, Curt Shook, Clint Shook, Dara Morton; thirty-two great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Wednesday afternoon, 3:00 PM, November 22nd at the Gruver Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Chappell, pastor, officiating.  Interment will be in Gruver Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gruver Farm Scholarship, Gruver Cemetery, or Gruver United Methodist Church, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. 1306, Guymon, OK  73942.
