Gwen Mayer

Gwen Mayer, 79, passed away Monday morning, January 11, 2010 at Brighton Gardens Hospice, Omaha, Nebraska.

Gwendolyn Eileen Zimmerman was born April 5, 1930 in Forest Park, Illinois to Bessie and Harry Lee Zimmerman. Gwen was reared in Denver, Colorado, attending Denver schools and graduating from North High School. She was united in marriage to John R. Mayer on August 14, 1948 in Denver. The Mayer family moved to Guymon in 1963 and operated the Panhandle Livestock Commission and they later owned and operated a heating and air conditioning business. Gwen was past president of the Rose Garden Club and a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Primetimers group. She most enjoyed her job for the last 28 years, that of being “Grammy” to her adored grandsons.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Karl A. Mayer, who passed away in 2001; husband, John Mayer, who passed away in 2006; sister, Betty Lou Larsh; and brother, Sonny L. Zimmerman.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane M. and husband, Bob Lepley of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Marsha Mayer of Guymon; three grandsons, Jonathan Mayer of Greenwich, CT; Travis Mayer and wife, Damaris of Casa Grande, AZ; and Robert Mayer and wife, Kylee of Henderson, NV; and one great grandson, Rodderick Mayer. She is also survived by two nephews, Gary Larsh and wife, Annelle of Albuquerque, NM; and Stuart Larsh of Denver; sister-in-law, Roberta Curtis of Denver; brother-in-law, Charles Mayer and wife, Rhonnie of Dumas, TX; and several nieces and nephews and their families; and special neighbors and friends, Lee, Betty and Sarah Fowler.

Funeral services will be Saturday morning, January 16th at 11:00 A.M. at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Burkett and Rev. Barry Bennett, officiating. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 3:00-8:00 PM, Friday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Saturday morning.
