John C. Tuttle, 86, passed away early Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Dunaway Manor.
The son of Minnie (Conover) and Fred Tuttle, he was born February 18, 1927 in Hooker, Oklahoma. John graduated from Hooker High School in 1945 and then served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Emogene K. (Slokey) Brandkamp on September 28, 1947.
John and Slokey raised their family in Guymon, and John worked until retirement for the Michigan-Wisconsin, now El Paso Gas Plant. Following retirement, John and Slokey headed to the mountains and lived in LaVeta, Colorado for 15 years before returning to Guymon. John was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. In 2012, Oklahoma Panhandle State University named the Tuttles as the “OPSU Honored Family.”
Survivors include his bride of more than 65 years, Slokey Tuttle; 8 children, Connie and husband, Robert Conner of Enid, OK; Dottie and husband, Robert Post, John Tuttle and wife, Jennifer, Steve Tuttle and wife, Rita, all of Guymon; Sara and husband, Hassan Khammash of Arlington, Texas; Fred, Martha and husband, Rick Bledsoe; and Bill Tuttle, all of Guymon. They are also blessed with 16 grandchildren, Greg Stelzer, Tony Stelzer, Todd Post, Robert Post, III, Rachael Souders, Chris Tuttle, Kathy Dunlap, Janessa Brown, Nick Tuttle, Kim Tuttle, Jeff Lowery, Connie Mikla, Katy Tuttle, Josh Tuttle, Andy Scott, Brandy Tharp; 21 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Win Tuttle and Bob Tuttle; a sister Fredys McAnarney; and two grandchildren.
A Rosary will be said Friday evening, 7:00 P.M., at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, 501 NW Fifth. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning, 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1220 North Quinn, Guymon, with Father Mike Wheelahan, officiating. Military rites will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
Viewing will be Thursday, 1-8 PM and 9 AM -8 PM Friday.
